One of the best parts of having your own apartment with your own space is finally having the ability to keep a furry four-legged companion with you. Your first instinct is to immediately go to the shelter and grab the first cat you find, but not every cat is created equal.
If you’re looking for the best cat breed for your new luxury apartment in KC (and are ready to invest in a Roomba, because boy, you’ll need it), here are a few breeds for you to consider:
1.) Sphynx
The Sphynx cat is most well-known for being the iconic hairless cat. While these cats do not have hair and will not require as much shedding clean-up, Sphynx cats still require an extensive care and grooming regimen. They are extremely intelligent cats, so if you are gone from the house for most of the day or need to keep your focus away from them for long periods of time (for example: working from home), you need to make sure that your Sphynx cat has some mentally stimulating activities to keep them occupied.
Sphynx cats are friendly and sweet, and they love to curl up in your lap and love on you if you let them. If provided the right activities, they make excellent additions to any luxury apartments in KC.
2.) Scottish Fold
Scottish Folds are adorable cats with folded ears that have sweet, friendly temperaments. They are also great mouse-catchers for the errant, unwanted rodent that may appear in your home. These cats love attention, so if you are always wanting to cuddle up with your furry friend, then they might be the “purrfect” cat for you. However, if you are often gone, be it for work or travel or any other reason, then this cat may not be the best fit for you for the same reason.
3.) Ragdoll
If you’re looking for a pretty dog-like cat, then look no farther. The Ragdoll cat is another feline friend that thrives on your attention. Much like a dog, Ragdoll cats will greet you at the door, and are also capable of learning tricks and commands as long as proper training techniques are used. They are sweet, loving, and affectionate, and are ready and willing to give you some much-needed snuggling after a long day
The only drawback to having a Ragdoll cat is the grooming care. They have long hair with fluffy coats, requiring constant attention and grooming to keep their coats clean and shiny and your apartment hair-free.

4.) Burmese
If you aren’t planning on getting any other furry friends, then a Burmese cat may be your best bet. While they don’t often get along well with other cats, they adore their humans and are very affectionate. You’d be hard-pressed to find a Burmese cat who wasn’t passionate about getting some good belly rubs.
Burmese cats are active and very playful as kittens, but tend to really mellow out as they grow older. As a result, if you have a younger Burmese cat, you might also want to invest in a cat tree or other cat toys that they can use to climb around on. Also, make sure that you’ve got a good spot for your cat to look out the window. They’ll be great people-watching companions for you.
5.) Russian Blue
Owning a Russian Blue cat can give you the best of both worlds. This cat does well being on its own while you’re out of the house or traveling, but when you’re home, it will want to have your affection and attention. Typically, this type of cat likes to attach itself to one family member, but it is friendly toward the whole family. However, if you have frequent visitors over to your house, it can act very aloof and closed off (which, honestly, is the perfect vibe for any of the luxury apartments in KC. Luxury apartment, luxury cat, right?).
This type of cat loves to be included in family activities, but it also enjoys some nice peace and quiet apart from the rest of the household, so don’t be surprised if this cat finds a nice sunny spot on the floor to chill for a while every now and then.
6.) Himalayan
This is another one of those cat breeds that, if you are lucky enough to have one, will be glad that you purchased a Roomba. With a long, fluffy, luxurious coat, Himalayan cats are one of the most calm and chill cat breeds on this list. However, every now and then they do get what’s called the “zoomies,” or a sudden burst of energy that can cause them to go from taking a nap to running around the room trying to catch every piece of dust they see floating in the air. This doesn’t happen often, but you want to make sure that you’ve got plenty of cat toys to keep them occupied for when it does.
Himalayans are considered to be one of the friendliest cat breeds out there and are good with members of the whole family, so if you’re looking for a true family cat, this one might be your pick.
7.) Siamese
If you have at least a basic knowledge of cat breeds, then you’ve likely seen the Siamese cat. These beautiful cats are talkative and playful, so if you’re looking for a cat that can be a true companion, then this is what you’re looking for. They love affection and attention, and will often engage in “conversation” with you.
Much like the Russian Blue cat, when you are home, the Siamese cat will want all of your affection and attention. However, unlike the Russian Blue, the Siamese cat does not do well with its human being gone for extended periods of time. If you are gone from your home often or travel frequently for work, then the Siamese cat might not be the right choice for you.
